AUR Programme

AUR / Going for Gold
The Associate Faculty of Trinity University College

Aur Programme

AUR is an exciting new programme being offered by our school this year, in partnership with Trinity University College, Carmarthen. AUR (Anelu'n Uwch at Ragoriaeth), Going for Gold - the Associate Faculty of Trinity University College, provides a programme of relevant modules that will reinforce the work of our school in developing our pupils, both academically and socially.

The provision is a way of supplementing and reinforcing the school's work and of introducing our pupils at an early stage to the different modes of learning that will face them at university. It also serves as a means of breaking down barriers between secondary and university education and is a demonstration of the school's commitment to widening access to Higher Education.

Among the many benefits to pupils will be the opportunity to develop a range of transferable skills that will be valuable to them at their choice of university, develop their knowledge and understanding of their specialist subjects as well as transfer the credits gained into a Certificate in Communication and Personal Skills Development should they choose to study at Trinity University College.

How would the pupils benefit from the scheme?

  • The provision would enable them to further develop a range of transferable skills that would be valuable to them in their choice of university.
  • Curriculum based modules would enable the students to enhance their knowledge and understanding of their specialist subjects.
  • They would be able to take advantage of the University's learning support resources including the library and careers service.
  • They would have early experience of completing work at university level.
  • They would be able to refer to their experiences/achievements as members of the Associate Faculty when applying for a place at their chosen university.
  • Universities would be able to take into account the credits gained by pupils as members of the Associate Faculty as they consider their applications for places on specific degree courses.
  • There would be opportunities for the pupils to visit the University campus regularly and meet the institution's current students.
  • Those pupils deciding to enroll on an undergraduate programme at the University in South West Wales would be able to transfer the credits gained by them as members of the Associate Faculty to the Certificate in Communication and Personal Skills Development available to all students of the University.
  • Every pupil who will have completed at least one module successfully will be invited to the Associate Faculty's annual awards ceremony
